| Strawberry Reservoir - Cutthroat Trout Fishing Is Heating Up! |
This nice cutthroat was caught fly fishing, using a royal coachman pattern. Directions to the fishing spot:From the strawberry bay dock boat north past 3 smaller bays, after passing the largest bay you will want to slow down and begin trolling for rainbows and kokanee on the way to the bay near the strawberry river outlet (north west corner of the reservoir). Troll to where you start to notice more submerged vegetation and pull up the trolling gear. With trolling gear up, travel just past where the weedline meets the deeper water (about 50 yards from the shoreline). Here you will want to drift fish the open areas in between the vegetation. Be prepared to see alot of fish feeding ( from 5pm-7:30pm) topwater. Map:All Fish On This Trip Were Released! Its hard letting such a nice sized 20 inch cutthroat go, but thanks to the regulations in place at strawberry (and the anglers practicing catch and release on cutthroats) catching fish 20 inches or larger is a common occurance. As of Sept. 23 2009 - no cutthroat above 15" and less than 22" may be harvested - any fish with cutthroat markings is considered a cutthroat - No more than two may be cutthroat trout under 15 inches - and no more than one may be a cutthroat trout 22 inches or larger. So Remember to check the current DWR proclamation when fishing Strawberry Reservoir. |
