Silver Lake is a shallow wetlands lake, located in Big Cottonwood Canyon. It is a popular fishing and hiking destination for people staying near by at Brighton, and Solitude Ski Resorts. It is close to Sandy, Draper, Midvale and is only about 30 minutes from Salt Lake City. Silver Lake provides fisherman with some good rainbow trout fishing, as well as a good population of brook trout and redside shiners. Most of the lake is surrounded by a boardwalk, making this mountain lake handicap accessible! The boardwalk also leads to trailheads for Twin Lakes Reservoir (a great Hike than Fish), and Solitude Lake. Fishing Pressure:Fishing pressure is moderate during the week to high on the weekends so show up early to get a good spot. People still have much success here because it is consistently stocked by Utah DWR. For more comfortable fishing try hiking the mile to Twin Lakes Reservoir. Likely Catch:
Amenities:Fishing Piers, Boardwalk Trail, Informational Signs, DWR tourism office, Additional Trailheads. It is close to a restraunt/market, but be sure to stop before you get in the canyon or you will be paying tourist prices for your snacks and gear. Rules:No pets, or swimming. It is a watershed area, this rule is common throughout Big Cottonwood Canyon. Daily bag and possession limit:A total of 4 fish. Hours:Public parking lot closes its gates at 9:00 pm. But you can find parking elsewhere. Directions:Take Fort Union Blvd. east until it turns into big cottonwood canyon rd (hwy 190). Continue about 14 miles until you reach Brighton.
