Trout Family - Salmonidae
|
This family is comprised of whitefishes, trouts, chars and salmon, and greylings. All are soft-rayed fishes with an adipose fin and an axillary scale in the axil of each pelvic fin. The group is wide-spead and numerous in the northern regions. They either spend most or all of their life in fresh water or grow in the sea and run up streams varying distances to spawn. This group is of great importance to utah and contains some of the states most beautiful and aggressive game fish. Originally there were only the cutthoat trout and four whitefishes, now there are more than 12 different species from the trout family of fish that inhabit our waters. |
