Sunfish Family - Centrarchidae

Sunfishes include some angler favorites such as the Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Bluegill, and Crappie. All sunfish except the Sacramento Pearch originate from east of the rockies.

  • The dorsal fin has spinous rays connected to soft rayed parts.
  • Can grow to sufficient size and put up a great fight pound for pound.
  • Most sunfish are nest builders, breeding in the spring or early summer.
  • The male typically guards the nest and the young.
